Why?
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms states, in section 2A, that every Canadian citizen is entitled to freedom of conscience and religion. Therefore, the choice of vegan food cannot be ignored, since it is clearly a matter of conscience. As a result, no one today should be forced to consume meat, milk, cheese, or eggs if these foods are inconsistent with their deep ethical, social, and environmental values. Read More…

It’s a basic principle of ethics not to cause unnecessary suffering to others. When people choose not to eat animal products, this is often based on strong ethical convictions. The government should not oblige people to eat animal products when they eat at government-run institutions.
