Formal petition at the federal level
The current paper petition is sponsored by NDP MP Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet. It is found in most vegan and vegetarian restaurants and cafes in Canada. So far, we have collected potentially tens of thousands of signatures, if all the people who signed up return their signed slips.
The petition has been closed to signatures since January 2019.
Our goal is 100,000 signatures divided into 500 leaflets. These were placed primarily in hundreds of vegan restaurants and cafes across Canada since November 2017, but our petition was also supported by associations and volunteers.
Portugal saw the same law passed with a petition of 15,000 signatures for a country with a population of 3X fewer people. That said, please keep in mind that we do not have the same political structure and situation, but with a big effort we can make a big impact!

In addition, E-Petition 1205, sponsored by Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine Smith of the Liberal Party, was launched in late August and closed on November 29, 2017 with 3106 signatures.
We also have a non-governmental e-Petition (less official) on Change.org with nearly 20,000 signatures, which we hope will have a big impact in showing the public’s support for our goals.
