In particular, VOC is working to make vegan options available in the public sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VOC advocates that the right to access vegan alternatives, particularly vegan meals, should be recognized as a human right under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Driven by the priority to alleviate suffering in the world, VOC\u2019s specific aims are to improve human health, protect animals and reduce environmental degradation.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b21921e elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"b21921e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" process<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision-making space of VOC is its<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1owLED18uBTyN__LuZg7qO0tCWEa-YW5kSUk7sAGxCRM\/edit?usp=sharing\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Agora<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, whose instructions formalize the decision-making process.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-2be4e85\" data-id=\"2be4e85\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><b>Decision Process: Eligibility of objections<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a member challenges the admissibility of an objection, he or she may request arbitration from the VOC Board of Directors, which must render it within 15 days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To guide the Board of Directors in this arbitration process, which follows the principle of radical transparency, eligibility criteria are proposed:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an objection that gives priority to an ethical principle other than that of VOC (alleviating suffering) is out of order;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an objection is inadmissible if it is based on knowledge or beliefs that are not normally acknowledged by democratic institutions that have the mission to validate information (data, proposals, arguments, hypotheses, theories, etc.). \u201cDemocratic institutions\u201d are those who have the trust of the community, even if their legal status is not strictly public; for example, legally private but publicly auditable institutions operating according to radical transparency could qualify for this status;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an objection that is based on an illogical argument is out of order.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The arbitration report is recorded in the Agora<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/18nt4_PAJ4E_Ij6sYJd8gmjW7YQLSvywNIaNzXyKa_Mc\/edit?usp=sharing\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">archives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Consent decision-making and quality of discussions<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vegan Option Canada\u2019s decision-making process is based principally on consent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consent decision-making promotes discussion. It is the quality of the argument that prevails, not the number of participants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The quality of the discussions is crucial for the proper functioning of VOC, especially on a subject as emotional as the animal issue, which puts some people in a vulnerable position. It is important that all participants feel comfortable and safe in the VOC discussion spaces. The<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1RyK_nEGU9BN4Sqz7Qp2gWxgYYUYkhfrHBbzIg3TjNRE\/edit?usp=sharing\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WebmasterTeam<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in charge of the administration of the information system, ensures this quality and must intervene with the participants if their communication is deemed inappropriate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does \u201csafe space\u201d mean? There are two levels at which it can be understood:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1- feeling comfortable or confident in a space or with people;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2- feeling safe and\/or physically and psychologically protected from oppression and\/or aggression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So one has to be vigilant about how one communicates with the other in general.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be careful with remarks that appear innocuous but have a negative dimension (example: irony directed against a participant\u2019s proposal). Communicating in this way is never desirable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be careful as well with jokes about the animal issue, which can make people uncomfortable even if they are meant \u00a0to relax the atmosphere. and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">communicate by mail or email.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To implement this mandate, two Communication Council members are sufficient for proposals that are considered minor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the VOC website is the main platform for communicating VOC&#8217;s official texts, the \u201ccomments\u201d function (allowing users to express themselves) is deactivated, in order to avoid confusion; any proposed exceptions to this general rule must be validated via the Agora.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Assigning Access Codes to Vegan Option Canada Information Systems<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members of the VOC<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1RyK_nEGU9BN4Sqz7Qp2gWxgYYUYkhfrHBbzIg3TjNRE\/edit?usp=sharing\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WebmasterTeam<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hold access codes to VOC information systems (website, social networks, collaborative platform, email, Google account), which is a major responsibility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to secure the informational heritage of VOC, the Board of Directors of VOC has a mandate to appoint the members of this WebmasterTeam.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Delegation of Financial Authority and Accounting Process<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vegan Option Canada\u2019s forecasted budget is validated through the Agora.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only the VOC Board of Directors has delegated authority to incur expenses or other financial transactions as part of this budget. The Board of Directors has the ability to delegate this authority by imperative mandate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For operations not planned in this budget, the Board of Directors may incur expenses of up to $1000 annually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Treasurer signs for the association\u2019s payments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Treasurer ensures the completion of each financial transaction (including verifying the accuracy of its figures, with supporting documents) and has it certified by the Board of Directors prior to making a payment, booking and archiving of accounting documents.
